BISTRO 3000 – SERVING THE FUTURE

A travelling exhibition on Sustainable Lifestyle, Food & Design proposed by Svensk Form

Food concerns us all. Food is central in our everyday consumption and also in our relationship to the planet we live on. Food is cultivated, refined, processed, packed, transported, stored, prepared, consumed then leaves with the sewage and can be renewed as energy. Far too much is wasted, at the same time as many people do not have daily food or water. Food has a tremendous impact on our environment and involves all these challenges. It runs from the global level, through our countries, cities, restaurants, kitchen and right down to our own plate. Throughout history, the meal has also been a symbol of the good life, of bringing people together. Objects around the meal, from the basic bowl and vessel, are carefully ornamented in most cultures to enhance the experience.

By using the food and the meal as a starting point, we wish to address more complex questions on sustainability and positive lifestyle changes. BISTRO 3000 – SERVING THE FUTURE is an interactive exhibition concept initiated by Svensk Form (länka) together with Futurniture (länka). In each venue there will be an active exchange of food, design and interdisciplinary participants. Cool design, good meals and local heroes. The plan is to start the international exhibition tour in Brazil 2011, in Sao Paulo and Salvador.

A first step was made at Designboost 2009 by inviting Brazilian guest speakers, sharing a speed dating dinner and showing a visionary kitchen by Electrolux under the title SERVING THE FUTURE.
