At Material Gap the goal is clear: to bridge the gap between designers and researchers, to make it easier for designers to use the new materials that researchers develop. Design Boost is a tool according to Peer Eriksson organizer and communication strategist.

The New Material!?

The journalist Mark Isitt was moderator and starts the evening of Material Gap with stating that “we are in the plastic age, but we need to leave it, we need a new material”. That new material wasn’t invented during the evening, but glimpses of an interesting discussion took place, such as scientist Fredrika Gullfot saying that it is a myth that designers and scientists do not speak the same language, what really is the big difference is that we speak about different things. On 27 October and 15 November it is time for exhibitions by Considerate Design (Design Med Omtanke), which takes place at Form / Design Center in Malmo and the Gothenburg Opera in Gothenburg. About fifteen companies will exhibit prototypes developed in collaboration with Considerate Design. The starting point is public spaces but private companies may also have need for the prototypes that are developed.

Four rather dissimilar house/living projects with a focus on energy efficiency have caught my attention. Together they can show on possibilities of different ways to decrease our energy consumption and maybe trends as to where climate conscious architecture is heading.

Eco City Augustenborg

The Eco City Augustenborg in Malmö is a borough that has changed course and now has received the World Habitat Award for its work with dialogue that has stimulated involvement among residents, public and private actors. emarkeAccording to a psychologist I have talked to the most effective labelling of a product is to point out the bad products, rather than the best, as is the common way to do it. People tend to think that for example the organic labeling only shows the extra special good fruit, and that as the other fruit is sold in the shop they should be at least ok so why should it be necessary to buy that extra special good one?
